In the areas of renewable energy and desalination, Qualies engages since 2019 in a partnership with Planet, an Italian-based organisation, examining conditions and viable waysforward for implementing the “Mangrove Still” in Oman and the Middle East. Mangrove Still
is solar-powered distiller, applying a modular structure, capable of producing fresh water from seawater or highly concentrated salt water, used for land regeneration or for producing potable (drinking) water. In essence, Mangrove Still represents a systemic, nature-based set of solutions to the challenges of coastal regions plagued by a combination of heat and dray lands along with increasing problems of salination. Planet in collaboration with Qualies have received funding from the MEDRC, including support for advancing the Omani applications.
