The energy systems of the world are in a stage of transformation and transition to a state in which our needs are met in ways that are secure, safe and sustainable for the future. While this applies to all countries, the Middle East region belongs to those that have to undergo the most extensive adjustment, given its high dependency on fossil fuels, including by way of export revenue and a stable economy. On the other hand, the Middle East countries have built and accumulated first-rate expertise and practical knowledge in the energy field and are also well equipped with substantive opportunities to develop new sources of energy as well as upgrade their energy systems and make them more efficient.
All this is highly applicable to Oman which has set ambitious goals to ensure that 30% of its energy supply will emanate from renewables by 2030, while also undertaken a range of other new investments as well as regulatory changes in the energy sector. At the same time, Oman welcomes foreign engagement and participation in these projects, opening for mutual benefits with international investors and providers of technology, know-how and access to export markets.
The Organisation for Quality and Innovation Strategies (Qualies) has long experience of energy policy, industry and international markets. It collaborates with several countries in the Middle East with advice and recommendations how to scale first-rate high promising new projects that bring radical improvement to the interfaces of energy, water and food systems. In Oman, Qualies has undertaken a sectoral review spanning general trends, policy objectives, business development and new project agendas and investment opportunities. Related to this work, Qualies services match-making between selective foreign enterprises and Omani companies. Qualies engages in similar undertakings, offering related services, also in areas of water, food/agriculture and waste.
As an important development agenda with potential huge benefits for Oman, Qualies is responsible for introducing a plant-based additive in Oman, namely Euroad, which achieves a remarkable combination of savings and reduced pollution, when added to hydrocarbons. The prime focus area is diesel and petrol. A large-scale application of Euroad in Oman would bring major economic savings while at the same time realising substantive health benefits due to cleaner air and associated decline in the damage presently caused by air pollution to human lung tissue, in turn worsening the damage caused by disease such as COVID-19. Numerous studies demonstrate greater damage to health, including higher death rates, for population in a state of suffering from air pollution. It is Qualies ambition to advance systemic change in support of better conditions in such respects.
